Loco Drive 4F I have spent some time getting the prototype Hornby 4f loc drive conversion working. It now goes well but just needs a bit of tidying up. I will sort some pictures out soon.
Like buses After last month’s exploits on a Beyer garratt I now have another one to work on. Thankfully no smoke for this one but it has needed the motor gearbox turning round to hide the mechanism. It also will have sound installed - including the double engine sound with the chuffs going in and out of sync. And I have to persuade it to go round 2 foot radius curves.
59 + 25 I converted a Hornby 59 and Bachmann 25 to DCC sound and only then realised the customer also wanted lights fitting. And I thought they were rteady for return very promptly after arriving. I now have the kits to install. The 25 looks straightforward but the 59 will be fun. I will try and sort out some before and after pictures.
EM to 00 Yes, sure, I said when asked to convert a couple of kit built locos from EM to 00. Well it turns out they are both outside framed with extended cranks. One has a chassis which looks as if it was designed for 00 but the chassis on the other will need narrowing to take 00 wheels. And the existing wheels, although Romford, so theoretically easy to remove, seem to want to break my Romford screwdriver rather than yield. On top of this the mechanisms are not of the best. So I have put together a suggested package which should produce a pair of nice locos - but with a rather alarming price tag - and I await to see what the customer says.
Postscript : He found the price too alarming - so I will have to reassemble and return them - sometimes jobs just work out like that.
