N gauge Deltic

I was sure I had read in a review of the new ‘N’ gauge Bachmann prototype Deltic that it had been designed with space for a speaker ready for DCC sound conversion. Hence I was happy to take the job on of converting one to sound. However it was not an easy job but we managed to get the decoder and a pair of small speakers installed. The sound is reasonable but cannot compete with its ‘00’ gauge cousin.

And I forgot to take a photo of the finished loco before the body went back on.

Minitrix A4

We were asked to convert a Minitrix A4 to DCC. The first surprise was that it already had a decoder. We could read the address of the decoder but apart from that it was dead. A burn mark on the plastic encapsulation explained the problem. It took quite a long time to check over the wiring before we felt comfortable putting a new decoder in - it was rather a mess. As well as sorting this out we sorted out the pickups and it was a rather nice running loco by the time we had finished it.
